Simran was born as Rishibala Naval on 4th April 1976 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Ashok Naval is Simran’s Father and mother is Sharda. Simran has two sisters, Monal and Jyothi Naval, and a brother named Sumith. She did her B.Com in Mumbai. She is a trained Bharatanatayam and Salsa dancer. Simran can speak Punjabi, English, Hindi and Tamil.

Simran made her debut in 1995 with the Hindi Film Sanam Harjai.
In 1997 she appeared in Tamil Film Once more.
Though her first film was a disaster, Jaya Bachchan saw Simran in a show Super Hit Muqabla and offered her a chance in Tere Mere Sapne.
She later appeared in Tere Mere Sapne (1996). She then starred in supporting roles in Muqaddar, Angaara and Daadagiri, Bal Bramhachari, Agni Morcha, Gunda Gardi etc.
Her first Malayalam film was Indraprastham.
Simhada maarei was her first film in Kannada which was only kannada film of her till now. This was released in 1997.
Abbayi gari pelli was her debut in Telugu in the same year.
