Starting her in 1943 she worked for about six decades. Ash abosle is the sister of legendary singer Lata Mangeskar. Asha sung in thousands of Bollywood movies and she gave performances in many concerts and shows across India and abroad. She has also recorded number of private albums.
Apart from Hindi she has songs in around 20 foreign languages. She sings songs of all Genres like Hindi film music, pop, ghazals, bhazans, indian traditional, classic, Qawwalis, sangeets and folk songs.
She was the receiver of Dhadha saheb Phalke and Padma vibushan.
Asha Mangeshkar Early life:
Asha Bosle was born in small princely state sangli now in Maharashtra in a musical family. Her father was an actor and also a singer. She lost her father when she was 9.her family moved from Pune to Kolhapur and then to Mumbai.
Asha was one of several children. She had a brother named Hridayanath Mangeshkar, as well as three sisters named Lata, Usha, and Meena. Of these Lata Mangeshkar would grow up to be a legendary figure in the world of film music, and Asha’s professional rival.
To support their family,she and her elder sister Lata Mangeshkar started singing and acting in films. Her first song was “ChalaChalaNavBala” for the Marathi film MajhaBal (1943).
She has performed in many concerts and shows and also appeared in TV shows. He sung numerous numbers of songs and won many awards like Film fare etc.
Career:
- She made her Hindi film debut with the song “SaawanAaya” for the movie Chunariya (1948).
- Her first solo Hindi film song was for the movie Raat Ki Raani (1949).
- In the beginning she used to get those offers which were rejected by Singers like GeetaDutt, LataMangeskar (who were leading at that time) such as singing for vamps and bad girls or second grade movies. Later she used get offers from A.R. Qureshi, SagadhHussain,and B.R. Chopra etc.
- She got many offers from Bumran and this helped a lot in her career. This collaboration with Burman resulted in numerous hits and theirmarriage.
- By 1980 she was a well-established singer but has remark as cabernet singer. She attempted different genre like Ghazels in 1981 and sung several ghazels.
- In 1987 she has received firstNational Award of her career.
- In 1995 Asha Bhosle when she was 62 sang for actress Urmila in the movie Rangeela. The track has songs like “TanhaTanha” and “Rangeela Re”, composed by music director A. R. Rahman.
- During the time of 2000s, several of Bhosle’s songs became chartbusters, including “RadhaKaise Na Jale” from Lagaan (2001), “KambakhtIshq” from Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya (2001), “YehLamha” from Filhaal (2002), “Lucky Lips” from Lucky (2005).
- In October 2004, The Very Best of Asha Bhosle, The Queen of Bollywood, a compilation album of songs recorded by Bhosle for albums and Bollywood films that were released between 1966 and 2003, was released.
- In 2012 she judged Sur Kshetra.
- In 2013, Bhosle debuted in the film Mai in the title role, at the age of 79. Bhosle played the role of a 65-year-old mother who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and is abandoned by her children. She received positive reviews for her acting as well from critics.

Bhosle’s daughter Varsha committed suicide on 8 October 2012; she was 56 years old and worked as a columnist for The Sunday Observer and Rediff.
Asha married Rahul Dev Burman in 1980. This was second marriage for both Rahul and Asha. Rahul, 6 years younger than her, earlier got divorced from Rita Patel in 1971.
Rivalry with lata:
Asha and lata used to be so close at young. Lata used to take Asha to school with her as the management refused for that she quit her studies. Asha eloping with Ganapati Rao crated distance between them, and career etc. they sung many songs together.While singing, Lata used to hold her notebook in her right hand, while Asha held hers in the left hand. This meant Lata had her face away from Asha, making it difficult for them to “anticipate” each other.
