The CS certification includes three levels of which one has to appear for three exams: Foundation Program, Executive Program, Professional Program. Foundation Course for Company Secretary (CS) is an 8-months duration course which is the first level study on the path of becoming a Company Secretary. The Company Secretary Foundation Program covers the study of subjects like as legal aspects of taxation, labor laws, corporate law, accounting, auditing or financial analysis etc.

ICSI Exam Syllabus
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has introduced an ICSI Exam Syllabus for the Company Secretary (CS) Programme.
Subjects for CS Course
- There are 4 papers in CS Foundation Course
- There are 7 papers divided into 2 Modules in CS Executive Course
- There are 8 papers divided into 4 Modules in CS Professional Course
Company Secretary Exam Pattern Syllabus
- CS Foundation Programme exam will be held in two sessions: Morning and Afternoon.
- The test would be conducted in OMR System comprising objective type multiple-choice questions to be solved in 90 mins.
- There would be 2 parts in a paper consisting of two subjects 50 questions each carrying 100 marks.
- Each question will carry 2 marks.
- Subjects of this exam are Business Environment and Entrepreneurship, Business Management, Ethics and Communication, Business Economics, Fundamentals of Accounting and Auditing.

Qualifying Marks
Qualifying marks for Foundation (or) Executive (or) Professional examination is a minimum of 40% marks in each paper and 50% marks in the aggregate of all subjects.
