About K.J. Yesudas: Kattaserry Joseph Yesudas popularly termed as K.J. Yesudas is an Indian muiscian and play back singer. He has recorded more than 50,000 songs in various Indian Languages as well as Russian, arbic, Latin and english. He has composed songs in Malayalam. He has songs in all indian languages excpet Assame, konkani and kashmiri. His successful muisc career continued for 5 decades in which he has received many awards and honors. J. Yesudas was born in Fort Kochi, in the erstwhile Kingdom of Cochin, in a Roman Catholic Christian family to late Augustine Joseph and late Elizabeth Joseph.
His father was a well-known Malayalam Classical Musician and also a stage actor. His father was his first Guru.
Yesudas was the eldest of children followed by 3 younger brothers and younger sister.
He started his academic music training at R.L.V. Music Academy, Thrippunithura.
Career:
Yesudas started his career in Kollywood in early 60’s and later in mid 1970s he entered in Bollywood Industry.
He has won seven National Film Awards for the best singer in the Indian film industry. In 2006, he sang 16 film songs in four South Indian languages on the same day at AVM Studio, Chennai.
He gave performances in all major cities. He presented his Carnatic music in various concerts.
He is the only singer who has been accorded the title Asthana Gayakan (Official singer) of Kerala State. He has been awarded the Padma Sri (1973) and Padma Bhushan (2002).
In 1965, he was invited by the Soviet Union government to perform at music concerts in various cities in the USSR and also sang a Russian song over Radio Kazakhstan.
He has taken the words of Sree Narayana Guru, “One Religion, One Caste for all humans” to heart.
Music Company:
In 1980 Yesudas established the Tharangni Studio at Trivandrum. In 1992 the office and studio were moved to Chennai and the company was incorporated in the US in 1998. Tharangni Studio and Tharangni Records became a recording center in Kerala which, for the first time, brought out audio cassettes of Malayalam film songs in stereo. The record company also had a voice mixing studio in Chennai, Studio27. The studio continues to produce and present events of Yesudas both for film and Indian classical music concerts throughout the world.
He has sung more than 50,000 songs in all languages and is receiver of various awards, honors and recognitions.
Personal Life:
Yesudas is married to Prabha. They have three sons, Vinod, Vijay and Vishal. The second son Vijay Yesudas is a budding musician. The family is currently settled in Chennai and Kerala.

Controversies:
On 2 October 2014, Yesudas sparked a row while speaking at a public function on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi, where he stated that “Women should not wear jeans and trouble others. You should dress modestly and do not behave like men”. This resulted in a number of protests from Womens’ Rights and Political organizations, who asked him to withdraw the comment.
